Impossible Nature

Through 29 May 2016 at Spazio Meme in Carpi, Modena, Italy. Alex Urso has always been attracted to the emotional power of objects. For the artist, “things” are heralds of poetry, full of unbridled aesthetic power, able to tell infinite stories. Found in the remotest parts of the city, those elements are knick-knacks without value, but through Urso’s eyes they become independent entities. Extracted from reality, those objects are taken away from their daily life and reintegrated by the artist in a new context, with the aim of giving birth to new and unexpected narratives. MORE

She writes, “Collage night’s particular blend of casual community and critical rigor, of art-making as social craft (and vice versa), has helped to make it a staple activity at the Women’s Center for Creative Work." Jordan Westre’s collage combines Surrealism with Richard Hamilton’s approach to collage making. “Westre uses shifts in scale, contrarian placements, and nonsensical juxtapositions to make images that function like dreams but whose messages are on point.” A portfolio of her work appears in KOLAJ #15.
