FROM THE ARTIST DIRECTORY

Graham Moore
Los Angeles, California

"My process is lots of experimentation! For instance with the billboard pieces, I break it down into manageable size pieces then soak it in the bathtub until I can peel it apart. The fun is always in the reveal, because there are so many layers, you never know what you are going to get! The record cover pieces are like a jigsaw puzzle, sometimes a piece will sit on my table for a few days, constantly moving pieces around until it feels right!" MORE

Annalynn Hammond
Ridgeway, Wisconsin

"I am interested in ideas as things and things as ideas. What is a thing and what is a thought? I see my artworks as the question marks on such unanswerable questions. I enjoy collage for both its thingness and its thoughtness. These images are undeniably someone else’s somethings–found, stolen, destroyed, appropriated. But a thing in itself is nothing." MORE

Peter Boersma

"I use a lot of sellotape to tear the pictures out of the magazines. The paper/ink that sticks to the tape I use to build my collages. Sometimes more than 20 rolls per work." Besides making collages with his original and unique scotch tape technique Boersma also makes collages on the sewing machine. MORE

Evelyne Chevallier

"It’s been almost seven years now that I have been collecting street photographs in as many places as possible. As there is no town, no village, no hamlet without written traces...This work, although appreciated in an artistic way, may also be seen as a sociological undertaking. The testimonies of precise moments in the history and the popular culture of some places." MORE

Amélie Jodoin

"Images are fascinating and the idea of creating a story with them is exciting. I try to create strange pictures by finding the best combinations of images from books and magazines. To me, less is more. Simple and powerful collages are the ones I prefer. Surrealist art is a huge inspiration for my work. All my collages are handmade so I’m in constant fear of putting too much glue or regretting a cut. Dangerous life." MORE

KOLAJ #17

"One of the things that makes collage, as practiced today, uniquely modernist is the fact that a collage always references itself….The modernist painter used bad brush strokes, a poorly drawn faces, and awkward trees to remind the viewer that they are looking at a painting, to ask the viewer to contemplate the artifice of the discipline, of the medium, and to delve into the ideas, feelings, and experience behind it….By its nature, collage has always done this."
