COLLAGE ON VIEW

Trampoline: Resilience & Black Body & Soul

Vanessa German at Fort Gansevoort in New York City, New York, USA through 21 December 2019. In this newest body of work, German answers the call of the late, great Toni Morrison, who in her 1993 Nobel lecture in Literature invited all writers, and by extension all artists, to “make up a story…For our sake and yours forget your name in the street; tell us what the world has been to you in the dark places and in the light. Don’t tell us what to believe, what to fear. Show us belief’s wide skirt and the stitch that unravels fear’s caul.” MORE

Bounty

Kris Kuksi and Mark Wagner at Joshua Liner Gallery in New York, New York, USA through 21 December 2020. Featuring Kuksi’s mixed-media assemblages and Wagner’s montages (image) made of United States banknotes, the exhibition highlights the thematic and stylistic similarities between their practices. Both artists rely heavily on the accumulation and arrangement of signifiers to illustrate power structures. MORE

Dead Reckoning

By Ewan Aparicio (Input Error; 2017). The third solo zine by Ewan Aparicio, continuing the themes of nature and cultural loss. Plotting a course with an undetermined destination. Aparicio's Artist Portfolio was featured in Kolaj #8 where Ariane Fairlie observed "two to three characters getting up to the usual mischief: space colonies, military men observing and being observed, and a Planet of the Apes scene." FROM KOLAJ 27

Renaissance Man

Steve Dalachinsky truly was a renaissance man: New York downtown poet, free jazz troubadour, mail art activist and tireless collage collaborator. His sudden passing after a reading at an event on September 14, 2019, ironically a celebration for A Book About Death, has left the New York scene and the world community in a state of shock and sadness. Allan Bealy remembers the poet, mail artist, and collagist in Kolaj #27. MORE
